Miami man arrested in Warren County on a non-custodial parent issue

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A Miami man is awaiting transfer back to Miami-Dade County relating to a non-custodial parent issue.
On the afternoon of April 8, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office received information that a Chevy Impala with a Florida license plate was possibly traveling through Warren County. The vehicle was reportedly en route from Florida to Nevada and connected to a non-custodial parent issue out of Miami-Dade County.
Warren County deputies located the westbound vehicle on Interstate 20 just west of Bovina. Investigator Dusty Keyes confirmed the license plate number, and the vehicle was stopped near the 4-mile marker with assistance from the Vicksburg Police Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
The vehicle was occupied by 39-year-old Avery Cameron Whitney of Miami, two children, and an adult female. The adult female was not related to the children. The children were turned over to Child Protective Services, and authorities coordinated with investigators in Florida. At the time, neither adult had outstanding warrants and no arrests were made.
A hearing was held the following day, April 9, in Youth Court before Judge Marcy Sutherland regarding the two children. That day, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office received a warrant for Whitney for parental kidnapping as a non-custodial parent. He was taken into custody and is currently held in the Warren County Jail.
The adult female was not charged. Judge Sutherland released the children to family members. Whitney waived extradition and does not face local charges. He is now awaiting transfer to Miami-Dade County.
