VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The City of Vicksburg will hold a public observance of the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 1, at 11:30 a.m. on the steps of City Hall, located at 1401 Walnut St.

The event is part of a nationwide tradition that began in 1952, when President Harry S. Truman called on Americans of all faiths to join in a day of prayer for the nation. Communities across the country continue to mark the day with public gatherings focused on unity, strength and spiritual reflection.

“We encourage all citizens to come out, pause, and join us in lifting up our community through prayer,” Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said in a statement.

The National Day of Prayer observance is free and open to the public.
