Port Gibson edges Raymond Rangers in season opener
RAYMOND, Miss. (VDN) — Port Gibson opened its season with an 8-6 win over Raymond on Friday night in a defensive battle.
The Rangers struck first, scoring on their opening drive to take an early 6-0 lead. Port Gibson answered when Ki’Montae Crutison connected with Joseph Porter on a 45-yard touchdown pass. Lenelle Snyder added the two-point conversion to put the Blue Waves ahead 8-6.
From there, the defenses took over. Jakyrun Barnes led Port Gibson with a team-high in tackles, while Nate Jones recorded an interception. Despite Raymond’s late pressure, the Blue Waves’ defense held firm to secure the season-opening victory.
The Blue Waves will host Jim Hill on Friday.
