FLORA, Miss. (VDN) — Two-time defending MAIS Class 4A champion Tri-County showed why it remains the team to beat Friday night, rolling past St. Aloysius 46-0 in its home opener.

Quarterback Cooper Johnson fueled the Rebels’ offense with two touchdown passes and a rushing score, while running back Cade Hunt found the end zone three times. Johnson connected with Hunter Hilderbrand for a 71-yard strike and later added a 5-yard touchdown pass to Hunt. Hunt also broke loose on runs of 5 and 34 yards during the second quarter.

St. Aloysius (1-1) appeared poised for an early breakthrough when it stopped Tri-County on downs during the opening series. Everything soon changed as Tr-County got back to moving the football. The Rebels (1-0) carried a commanding 40-0 lead into halftime before cruising the rest of the way.

The loss drops St. Al to 1-1 after last week’s season-opening win. The Flashes will go on the road next week to face Manchester Academy, who they defeated last season.
