Port Gibson, Miss.-Port Gibson High School girls’ basketball player Ger’Kiya Flowers has surpassed 1,000 career points. Flowers officially became a part of the 1,000-point club in January just as her final season ended.

“I felt proud of myself for reaching that goal but I was mainly trying to stay focused and play my best game every day,” Flowers said.

Flowers has spent the last few seasons starring at Port Gibson High School under Head Coach Lorenzo Thomas. Last season, Flowers helped the Blue Waves to a 20-8 season where the team won a District Championship along with a trip to the Big House. She scored 14 points in the District Championship game where PG won 46-41 over South Pike.

As a junior, Flowers scored 17 points per game and was named District Player of the Year. A year later as a senior, she averaged 18 points per game and testified that her most memorable performance was against Franklin County where she scored 22 points and hit a long shot before halftime. Her game-high remains at 30 points.

Flowers’ basketball career has come to an end at Port Gibson but she thanked her supporters for sticking with her along the way.

“I want to thank Coach Thomas and Coach Eric Reeves for everything,” she said. “I also want to thank my family and friends for everything.”

Ger’Kiya plans on attending Alcorn State in the Fall and possibly playing on the basketball and volleyball teams. Flowers has not officially committed to any school at this time.
