RAYMOND, Miss. (VDN) — DeMorrius Jones has been named the new head football coach at Raymond High School, the school announced.
A native of Laurel and a 2004 graduate of Laurel High School, Jones played at Jones Junior College and later at Belhaven University. He began his coaching career at Jackson Preparatory School, where he served as a junior high and varsity assistant defensive coach from 2012 to 2014 and was part of three state championship teams.
Jones later coached at Southwest Mississippi Community College from 2015 to 2018. He returned to Laurel in 2019 as special teams coordinator before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2020. During his tenure, Laurel won multiple 5A Region Championships in 2020 and 2023, made South State appearances in 2021, 2023 and 2025, and captured the 5A South State Championship in 2023 before finishing as state runner-up.
His 2025 defense allowed just 33 points in region play.
“I am honored and excited to join Ranger Nation,” Jones said. “My goal is to develop not only great athletes, but great young men who are prepared for success in all areas of life.”
