Ryan Nelson commits to the University of Oklahoma

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Ryan Nelson, a Vicksburg native and standout baseball player at East Central Community College, announced his commitment to the University of Oklahoma on Saturday night. Nelson shared the news on Facebook, stating he will continue his baseball career with the Sooners, who compete in the Southeastern Conference.

Nelson wrapped up an impressive freshman campaign at East Central, collecting 59 hits, 35 RBIs, six home runs and scoring 59 runs. His performance helped lead the Warriors to a 46-16 record during the 2025 season under Head Coach Neal Holliman.

Before his college career, Nelson was a key player for Warren Central High School, where he helped the Vikings reach the 2024 MHSAA Class 6A State Championship series under Head Coach Randy Broome.

In addition to his success on the field, Nelson has also excelled academically. He was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society last month for his academic achievements.
