Sadie Mae Day passed away on April 28, 2024, at 101.
Sadie was born on April 1, 1923, to farmers in Sims, Arkansas, and took pride in sewing and nurturing her gardens of vegetables, fruits, and flowers in the warm sunshine. Occasionally, she raised chickens, and she was also devoted to feeding the birds in the prickly holly tree outside of her kitchen window. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever remember being poked by that tree when asked to help fill the feeders.
Sadie was raised in the deepest grips of the Great Depression and was often faced with difficult decisions but remained humble and loving. Enduring the most challenging times produced a giving spirit, whether she gave eggs, fruits and vegetables, seeds and cuttings from her flowers, or helped her neighbors with clothing alterations. What she gave most of all was great unconditional love. When leaving her home, you left with her waving goodbye until she could no longer see you and a heart full of love.
She is heavenly reunited with her parents, George and Susie Bryant, her husband, N. W. Day; brothers Austin, Arthur, Shelton, Monroe, and Evron Bryant; sisters Margret Hill and Lucy Currey; sons Lonnie and Clois Bullock; grandson Wesley Seffens, granddaughter Bonnie Sue Holland, and one great-great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her children, George Bullock of Spain, Linda Sue Bullock of Florida, Brenda (Todd) Lynn of Vicksburg, Terry Bryant of Florida, daughter-in-law Barbara Bullock of Tallulah, grandchildren Tonya Bullock, Lonnie Bill Bullock, Velvet Hollowell, Alex Bullock, Deanna Bullock, Dempsey Seffens, Justin (Sabrina) Lynn, and Jessica (Dale) Yates, 12 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Sadie leaves behind her best friend and neighbor of many years, Nell Arnold, whom both enjoyed at least two cups of coffee a day together.
Visitation will be from 12:00 until 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah, Louisiana. A graveside service will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery.
Justin Lynn, Dale Yates, Brian Holland, Zach French, Tyler Bullock, and Ralph Bryant will be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Logan Bullock, Dempsey Seffens, David Seffens, Earl Bryant, and Ronnie Bryant.
The family extends a thank you to the staff at Heritage House Nursing Home, the nurses and assistants with River Region and Enhabit Hospice. Tatina Lott and Shannon Wince, thank you is simply not enough to say for your compassion, kindness, love, and laughter you gave us over the last days. You two earthly angels will never be forgotten and will remain forever in our hearts, may God bless you ten times over.
In lieu of flowers and plants, admire the birds and flowers you see. For something more, enjoy Sadie’s favorite drink, a splash of vodka and Sprite. As always, follow her advice and “Watch for those dern troopers.”
