VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Samantha Gale Burnside of Vicksburg passed away on Friday at home with her husband by her side.

Burnside was born May 25, 1990, in Ackerman, Mississippi, to Kenneth Reed (deceased) and Charlotte Reed. She grew up in Ackerman with her older siblings, Juston and Brandy Reed. While in Ackerman, she met the love of her life, Jason Burnside. They moved to Vicksburg in 2010 and married in 2011. Their first child, Charles, was born in 2014. Jason was born in 2015, and Cass followed in 2018. While she occasionally worked outside the home, she stayed at home to be close to her children and raise them.

In 2014, her husband Jason suffered a significant stroke that disabled him for several months. Health issues befell the family and several community benefits were held to assist the family with mounting medical costs.

One such event was a birthday for youngest, Cass at the Vicksburg Mall. Another last year included several vehicles putting on a show for the boys.

After not feeling well for several months, Burnside was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April of 2023. “She was in the hospital for 26 days, and they told us she wouldn’t make it out of there,” said her husband Jason. With a less than 7% chance of survival, Burnside fought valiantly for almost two years. Earlier this week, Burnside went to UMMC due to pain and the spreading cancer. She made the decision to go home to be with her family in her final days.

Glenwood Funeral Home has charge of the body, and per her request, she will be cremated. A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 16th, at First Baptist Church of Vicksburg, 1607 Cherry Street in Vicksburg. The visitation will be followed by a service afterwards.

The family would like to invite anyone and everyone who would like to attend. “Feel free to come out and join us.”
