VICKSBURG, Miss. – Vivian Bishop, 90, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, went home to be with the Lord early in the morning of February 6, 2025, At Merritt Hospital. She was born in Vicksburg and a graduate of Redwood high school. After graduation, she attended business school. Eventually graduating in a nursing program, she spent the next several years helping elders at Shady Lawn nursing home. After sometime, she moved to quality control before retiring.

Vivian was a devoted woman of faith, a pillar in her Apostolic church, and a shining example of God’s love to all who knew her.

Born on October 14, 1934 she dedicated her life to serving the Lord, her family, and her community. Even going so far as to starting a small church in Utica for years to share the Glory of God. At the time of her death she was a faithful member of First Pentecostal church Of Vicksburg, where she worshiped with a joyful spirit, led by example, and uplifted others with her prayers, wisdom, and kindness. Through her last hours in sickness and pain she reminded all that “God is good” 

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her home was always open, filled with warmth, love, and the aroma of home-cooked meals. She found great joy in reading her Bible, singing hymns, and sharing testimonies of God’s goodness. Her unwavering faith and gentle spirit touched countless lives.

Vivian is preceded in death by her mother and father, John & Kitty Halm. Her sisters Annie Mari Cousins, Nellie Walling, and Betty Shapero,  brother Joe Halm. husband James C. Bishop, 2 sons Billie Joe, and Jimmy Bishop,  And one grandson Brice Bishop.  

She leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters and their spouses, Ricky and Tommye Brister, and Richard and Tammye Starnes. One son and spouse, Tony and Jill Bishop.  Also seven grandchildren Kasey Cranfield, Blue Brister, Logan Bishop, Grady Bishop, Sam Starnes, Rowdy and Chance Bishop and 8 great grandchildren.    

Her home-going celebration will be held February 8th at First Pentecostal Church of Vicksburg, 6541 Paxton Rd.  with Pastor Dathan Tipton officiating. Visitation will also take place on Saturday from 9-11 and funeral to follow at 11. She will be laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery of Vicksburg, MS   

Pall bearers will be Darron Cranfield, Blue Brister, Logan Bishop, Sam Starnes, Rowdy and Chance Bishop and honorary Pall Bearer Ricky Brister.  

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing she is now in the presence of her Savior, whom she loved and served so faithfully. Her legacy of faith, love, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
