Shirley Ann McGuffee Riddle: 1945-2025

VICKSBURG, Miss. — Shirley Ann McGuffee Riddle, 79, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on June 13, in Texas, Shirley was one of 10 children of the late Harry L. McGuffee Sr. and Gladys G. Westbrook McGuffee. 

Shirley graduated from Culkin Academy where she was a cheerleader, played basketball and participated in local pageants. She attended Hinds Junior College where she enjoyed time on the Hinds Hi-Steppers dance team before settling down in Vicksburg to share 55 wonderful years with her husband, William “Billy” Riddle raising their three children. 

Shirley and Billy raised their kids in the Vicksburg Catholic Schools where she volunteered her time as a youth coach for basketball, cheerleading, and soccer. 

Shirley enjoyed working at the US Army Corp of Engineers and in her free time she enjoyed planning and directing weddings, playing bunko with friends but most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She was generous with her time, she loved deeply and found joy with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Billy, her parents, Harry and Gladys, her two sisters,  Marie Johns and Wanda Wilkerson and her three brothers, Cecil, Harry and Wayne McGuffee. 

She is survived by her three children, Tim Holder, Nancy Pitra (Joe) and Christine Bridges, her five grandchildren, William Holder, Molly Pitra, Liam Pitra, Blaine Bridges, and Gray Bridges, her four siblings, Bobbie Abraham (Ralph), Albert McGuffee (Carolyn), Carrie McGuffee and Eileen Ring and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, on Friday June 6 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., 5000 Indiana Avenue. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at St. Paul Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025 followed by an interment ensuing at Cedar Hill Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Scott Abraham, Mitchell Boulanger, Blake Clanton, CJ King, Jason King, Andy Vickers, and grandsons, William Holder and Liam Pitra.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Vicksburg Catholic Schools, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, or your own favorite charity.
