St. Al earns win over Central Hinds; Melton hits first varsity home run

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — St. Aloysius High School baseball team hosted Central Hinds on Tuesday night and came out with a 14-8 win. Last night’s win improved the Flashes’ record to 9-6 under Head Coach Jay Harper.

By the end of the second inning, the Flashes had a 4-0 lead after RBIs from Keller Bradley, Robert Lee, and Sadler Lambiotte. The Cougars crept back into the game in the third when they added three runs. St. Al didn’t let that discourage them as they picked up six runs after a double from Carson Smith and RBIs from William Roberson, Keller Bradley, and Walt Andrews.

The Flashes put the game away as they collected nine hits in the win, including a solo home run by Scoot Melton. Carson Smith and Keller Bradley both hit a double and finished with two hits and two RBIs. Lambiotte also hit a double and an RBI while Laken Bradley, Robert Lee, and Melton(1 RBI) all finished with a hit. Walt Andrews also hit an RBI.

Clark Hobson struck out three batters and Carson Smith struck out four.

The Flashes will travel to play Central Hinds on Friday.

Baseball Roundup

PCA: Porter’s Chapel Academy took a 10-0 loss to River Oaks Academy. Evan Gordon and Hunter Simms each had a hit. The Eagles will host River Oaks on Thursday.

VHS: The Gators fell short 18-0 to Ridgeland last night. Mincer Minor earned the team’s solo hit. Allan Allen and Mickell Jones both struck out two batters in the loss.

VHS will host Ridgeland on Friday.
