St. Aloysius rolls past Copiah Academy 12-0
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — St. Aloysius’ girls soccer team cruised to a 12-0 victory over Copiah Academy on Thursday, fueled by a dominant offensive performance and strong team play from start to finish.
Lynlee McMillin led the Lady Flashes in scoring and helped set the tone early.
“I feel pretty good about tonight because we played hard and I’m proud of my team for sticking together and we had great energy,” McMillin said.
St. Aloysius wasted no time getting on the board as Frances Ferrell found the net within the first minute of play. McMillin followed with back-to-back goals to give the Lady Flashes a 3-0 advantage. Ferrell earned her second goal shortly thereafter. At the 15-minute mark, Anna Kate McKnight added another goal to extend the lead.
Late in the first half, seventh grader LaniMarie Thurman scored two goals, pushing the lead to 7-0 heading into halftime.
The Lady Flashes picked up right where they left off in the second half as McKnight scored again within the first two minutes to make it 8-0. Sarah Smith and McMillin each added goals shortly after, and Smith later scored her second goal of the match at the 11-minute mark.
Just before the game was called, Mary Ruth Montgomery netted the 12th goal to cap off the shutout victory.
In the win, McMillin, Montgomery, Thurman and Lizzie McSherry each recorded assists.
