St. Aloysius tennis team wins District 4-5A Title, 6 advance to state

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Wednesday was nothing short of great for the St. Aloysius tennis team, as the Flashes clinched the MAIS District 4-5A championship with wins over Cathedral and Adams County Christian School (ACCS).

Walker Moore and Carrie Wood teamed up in mixed doubles to defeat Cathedral 6-0, 6-0, and later topped ACCS 6-1, 6-0. In No. 1 girls doubles, Olivia Larsen and Hendrix Eldridge beat Copiah Academy 6-4, 6-0, then edged Cathedral in a tiebreaker 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Grant Gattle and Michael Moore secured a win in No. 1 boys doubles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over ACCS.

Six players from the St. Aloysius tennis team: Sarah Smith, Cristan Wood, Julia Tuminello, Jane Matthews, Ryan Davidson and Caleb Stewart all advanced to the state tournament, though each took losses in their final matches.
