St. Al tennis team wins district title with 7–2 victory over Cathedral

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — St. Aloysius High School tennis team is now the district champion. The St. Al tennis team officially received the prestigious honor after defeating Cathedral 7-2 on Thursday night.

Andrew Johnston earned a win in boys singles (6–3, 0–6, 10–7), while Carrie Woods came out on top in girls singles (6–2, 7–5). Kristen Woods added another point with a win in girls singles No. 2 (6–4, 6–2).

In boys doubles No. 1, Ryan Davidson and Caleb Stewart secured a victory (6–1, 4–6, 10–7). Grant Gattle and Michael Moore dominated in boys doubles No. 2, winning (6–0, 6–0). In girls doubles No. 2, Julia Tuminello and Jane Matthews earned a win (6–0, 7–5).

Sarah Smith and Walker Moore finished the match with a win in mixed doubles (6–0, 7–5).

The St. Al tennis team is led by head coach Rick Shields and will compete in the Vicksburg Invitational on Saturday.
