WC picks up a road win against Ridgeland; VHS took a close loss to Loyd Star

RIDGELAND, Miss.(VDN)Warren Central High School softball team shut out Ridgeland 21-0 on the road on Thursday, and Vicksburg High took a close 5-4 loss to Loyd Star.

WC Game:

The game only lasted three innings as the Lady Vikes dominated from start to finish. They collected a total of 14 hits in the shutout victory that put them one step closer to a district championship. WC scored 10 runs in the first inning, 8 in the second, and 3 in the third to remain the No. 1 seed in the district.

Emily Muirhead pitched in all three innings for WC where she struck out five batters and allowed zero runs.

Whitley Parks led the Lady Vikes at bat as she went 3 for 3 with three RBIs. KeKe McKay hit a triple and a double as she collected three RBIs in the win. KK Williamson and MK Ferguson(1 RBI) hit one double each while Sydney Hern hit a 3-run home run. Laney Bennett(1 RBI), Kennadi Williams, Addi Mullen(2 RBIs), and Maddy Pant(3 RBIs) all had one hit. Anzley Keen went 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

VHS Game:

The Missy Gators took a close 5-4 loss on the road to Loyd Star. VHS was down 4-0 early in that game but quickly crept their way back where everything was determined in the seventh inning.

The Missy Gators fell short after not being able to tie the ball game in the final inning. Harmony Harris went 2 for 3 at the plate while Lili Kistler, Shandrea Lockridge, and Avery VanNorman each had a hit. Makynzie Dunmore also hit an RBI. 

The Missy Gators will travel to Columbus on Saturday for a doubleheader where they have a chance to clinch a playoff spot.
