Eighth-grader Mallory Spencer stepped up to lead St. Aloysius to a 9-7 win over Tallulah Academy on Tuesday.

“We came out and played team ball and we didn’t give up when we were down,” Mallory said.

An RBI from Florice and a wild pitch put TA up 2-0 in the first inning. The Lady Flashes wouldn’t get on the board until the second inning when Mallory Spencer hit a single which was followed by an RBI from Madelyn Kavanaugh to put the score at 2-1.

The Lady Trojans put two more runs on the board in the third but St. Al was able to tie the game at 4-4 after a double by Ruthie Britton, a triple by Madison Spencer, and a single from Mallory Spencer. The Lady Flashes were able to go up 5-4 in the fourth after a single from Britton.

Florice tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the fifth but St. Al would change that when they went up to bat. Mageigh Haller and Presley Brister both collected doubles while Britton and Megan Theriot both hit RBIs to give the Lady Flashes the 9-5 lead.

Mallory hit a double in the sixth and TA added two more runs in the seventh after Hopkins smashed a double and Malone hit an RBI but it wasn’t enough to overcome St. Al as they secured the 9-7 win.

Britton(2 RBI), Mallory(1 RBI), and Kavanaugh(1 RBI) all went 3 for 4 at the plate while Madison Spencer went 2 for 4 with one RBI. Haller(2 RBIs) and Brister both had one hit, and Theriot finished with an RBI.

Eight grader Mallory Spencer only allowed three hits as she struck out four batters.

Next up, St. Al(6-3) will travel to Jackson Academy on Wednesday.

“We’re going to come out and do the same thing tomorrow,” Britton added.
