Stephen Paul Griffing: 1959-2025

VICKSBURG, Miss. — Stephen Paul Griffing, 65, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 27, 2025. He was born on September 22, 1959, in Vicksburg to William Thomas and Thelma Effle Lee Griffing.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Griffing (née Strawn); his daughters, Maggie McKnight (Mac) and Anna Griffing (Jeremy McCaskill); his treasured grandchildren, Anna Kate and Van McKnight; his brother Tom Griffing (Melody); his loyal dog and best buddy, Jack; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Phil Griffing (Linda).
Raised in Valley Park and the Rolling Fork area, Steve carried his Delta roots with pride. A passionate — and often enthusiastic — Ole Miss fan, Steve had a lifelong love for sports. He dedicated many years to coaching football at the YMCA and local schools, including Rebul Academy and Porters Chapel Academy. He cherished every memory made on the field, and never missed a chance to relive those “glory days” — especially when bumping into former players around town.
In the late 1990s, Steve transitioned from coaching to a new career as a Terminal Coordinator at Citgo Petroleum in Vicksburg, where he worked faithfully for 20 years before retiring.
During the 1980s, Steve served in the U.S. Army Reserves. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his retirement, Steve found joy in simple pleasures and familiar comforts. He spent many afternoons rewatching his favorite movies, replaying old Ole Miss games on his DVR, and daydreaming about one day visiting Yellowstone National Park. He especially enjoyed Hallmark holiday movies and the constant companionship of his loyal dog, Jack, who rarely left his side.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, at Glenwood Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Mac McKnight, Jeremy McCaskill, Eric McCaskill, Mike Boler, Steven Taylor, and Mark Ettinger. Honorary Pallbearers are Alan Hattaway, Edward McKnight, Mike Ables, Gary Franco, Jim Strawn III, Brian Parent, and the deacons of Trinity Baptist Church.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Paul Pierce IV, Dr. Sam Pierce, and their teams for their dedicated care over the years.
