The public has the right to know
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The following is a letter to the editor concerning questions from the public about the Vicksburg Municipal Airport and possible closure.
Dear Editor:
Vicksburg Municipal Airport: Public Has a Right to know
While reflecting on the proposed decommissioning of Vicksburg Municipal Airport, I have begun to apply some basic journalistic principles to the situation, and several questions that require answers have arisen:
(1) When was the decision reached about decommissioning the airport?
(2) Who decided this?
(3) Why exactly are they doing this?
(4) What is going to happen to the Airport property?
(5) How will City and County residents be informed?
This is not a full list, but answers to them would be a good start.
As taxpayers and residents, the public has a right to know. Keeping it all a secret is not the way to run a responsible government. Representatives on both the City Council and the Board of Supervisors should start to be open about this matter and give the public immediately the information they should have received some time ago.
Sincerely
Bernadette Cahill
