VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Community members with low to moderate income can receive free, in-person tax preparation assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, offered in partnership with United Way of West Central Mississippi and hosted at the Warren Vicksburg Public Library, located at 700 Veto Street.

VITA services will be available Feb. 2 through March 2, 2026, on Mondays from 12 noon until 6 p.m. and Tuesdays from 12 noon until 5 p.m. Trained and IRS-certified volunteers will provide free, face-to-face tax assistance and electronic filing for individuals and families who qualify.

The VITA program is designed to help eligible taxpayers accurately prepare and file their federal and state tax returns at no cost. Certified volunteers ensure returns are completed correctly while helping participants claim available credits and refunds. Taxpayers simply bring the required documentation, and volunteers handle the rest.

To receive assistance, participants should bring the following items:

  • Proof of identification (valid photo ID)
  • Social Security cards or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) for yourself, your spouse, and any dependents
  • Proof of foreign status, if applicable
  • Birthdates for all individuals listed on the tax return
  • For married filing jointly, both spouses must be present
  • All income documents, including Forms W-2, W-2G, 1099, and 1099-INT
  • A copy of last year’s federal and state tax returns (if available)
  • Bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit of refunds
  • Total amount paid to daycare providers and their tax identification number
  • Health insurance exemption certificate, if received
  • All Forms 1095 related to health insurance coverage

United Way of West Central Mississippi encourages community members who may benefit from this service to take advantage of this free opportunity to file their taxes safely and accurately.
