“The Thinking Game” screening at the Strand on Feb. 2

VICKSBURG, Miss. – As part of the IRL Movie Club, the Strand Theatre will host a screening of the director Greh Kohs’ 2024 documentary “The Thinking Game,” on Saturday, February 2 at 5 p.m. Following the screening, a post-film discussion will be held.
The Thinking Game follows Demis Hassabis, a British artificial intelligence (AI) researcher, as he attempts to solve the enigma of artificial general intelligence (AGI).
Inside DeepMind’s London headquarters, founder Hassabis and his team are relentlessly pursuing the creation of AI that matches or surpasses human abilities on a wide range of tasks. Filmed over five years, the documentary puts viewers in the room for the pivotal moments of this quest, including the groundbreaking achievement of AlphaFold, a program that solved a 50-year grand challenge in biology.
The IRL Movie Club is an in-person movie club designed to have people connect with their local community and explore trending topics through the lens of independent film.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased here, and as always popcorn is free. The Strand Theatre is located at 717 Clay Street in downtown Vicksburg.
