Three PCA seniors shine at Monday’s tennis match

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Three Porter’s Chapel Academy senior tennis players earned individual wins Monday night, despite the team falling 6-3 to St. Augustine on Senior Night.
Seniors Sophie Masterson and Marley Bufkin teamed up to defeat Evie McGaugh and Gaylon Simmons, winning both sets 6-4.

“I think we did great, and I was proud of how we played,” Bufkin said. “We were focused on getting the next point every time, so that kept us motivated to finish strong and win hard.”
Senior Henry Slayton claimed victory in the boys’ singles No. 1 match, winning both sets 6-2. The win also secured him the district championship with a perfect 6-0 record on the season.

“It feels good, and we played solid because we were trying to win district,” Slayton said. “We’re not done yet—we have more district matches left, so we’re going to aim to win.”
In addition to the three seniors, Mia Abdo notched a win in girls’ singles, defeating Mary Frances McGaugh 7-5, 6-2.
