Three former teammates are reunited after all deciding to play college basketball at Mississippi Delta Community College. Layla Carter, Kierra James, and Janiah Caples are all back on the same team for the upcoming 2024-2025 season.

Carter, James, and Caples all played basketball at Vicksburg High School where the Missy Gators won four consecutive district championships under Head Coach Troy Stewart.

Carter, who is a 2023 VHS graduate, spent her freshman season at Southern Arkansas University where she played in 20 games and had a season-high of 14 points against Arkansas-Monticello. In high school, Carter was named a Dandy Dozen as well as being VDN’s 2023 Basketball Player of the Year.

Caples, also a 2023 graduate, averaged 15 points per game at VHS. She was named to both the All-District and All-County teams. She spent last season at Pearl River Community College where the Wildcats went 27-5.

James, a 2024 graduate, is fresh out of high school where she put up 13 points per game for the Missy Gators. In 2023 as a junior, James had a breakout performance against Callaway where she scored 20 points to lead VHS to their fourth district title. She also made the All-County and All-District Team.

Now that all three players are reunited, they have more than enough experience to shine some light on the Lady Trojans’ program this upcoming season.
