Top Mississippi Public Safety Officials Honored by Governor

JACKSON, Miss. (VDN) — Four outstanding public safety professionals were honored at the Governor’s Public Safety Awards ceremony, held during the third annual Public Safety Summit. Governor Tate Reeves, Attorney General Lynn Fitch, and Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell hosted the event to recognize individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and bravery in service to their communities.
This year’s honorees include:
- Sergeant Brian Brock, DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office – First Responder of the Year
- Investigator Lee Sanders, Madison Police Department – Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
- Battalion Chief Allen Elliot, Pearl Fire Department – Firefighter of the Year
- Assistant District Attorney Jasmine Magee, 2nd Judicial District – Prosecutor of the Year
Governor Reeves presented the First Responder of the Year Award to Sergeant Brian Brock, praising his life-saving actions and commitment to duty.
“Sergeant Brock is a hero, and I was proud to present him with the First Responder of the Year Award,” Reeves said. “There’s no doubt that his bravery saved lives. He is a prime example of what it means to protect and serve.” Sergeant Brian Brock risked his life by intentionally driving toward a wrong-way driver on the interstate in Desoto County.
Attorney General Lynn Fitch recognized Assistant District Attorney Jasmine Magee for her integrity and dedication.
“Jasmine brings compassion, integrity, and thoughtfulness to every case she touches,” Fitch said. “She approaches prosecution not as a job, but as a calling, and we are lucky to have her serving our great state.”
Commissioner Tindell honored Investigator Lee Sanders, calling his courage and service exemplary.
“His actions reflect the highest standards of law enforcement,” Tindell said. “It is an honor to recognize him as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.”
In Commissioner Mike Chaney’s absence, State Fire Coordinator Reed Abraham presented the Firefighter of the Year Award to Battalion Chief Allen Elliot on Chaney’s behalf.
“Battalion Chief Elliott always goes beyond his call to duty as a leader and first responder in saving lives and protecting the public,” Chaney said in a statement. “We are proud he has been named Firefighter of the Year for our state.”
The awards ceremony highlighted the selfless dedication of Mississippi’s public safety leaders and their impact on the communities they serve.
