VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Two horses known for repeatedly escaping their pen in Warren County are now housed at the Vicksburg Warren Humane Society — where they immediately escaped again.

A team, including Warren County Sheriff’s Deputy Drew Clemts, Terra Brown, and the Vicksburg Animal Shelter‘s Kacie Lindsey, helped capture the horses and take them to the Humane Society. The two escape artists have escaped from their privately owned pen in the county several times.

Within two hours of being placed at the Humane Society, they escaped.

The two freedom-loving animals lived in the county but would escape their pen and graze along the interstate and Highway 61 North, creating a potentially dangerous situation. City and County resources have repeatedly had to capture the animals without scaring them onto the busy roadways.

For the safety of both the horses and drivers, officials decided to house the animals at the Humane Society, where efforts are underway to secure their new environment.

The shelter is now seeking donations of feed and shaving materials to properly care for the horses.

“Since they’re obviously escape artists, they’re having to be stalled after hours, which means we need donations of shaving to put in the stalls,” Lindsey wrote in a social media post. “Yesterday, my employees and Warren County helped put up a round pen so they can still graze during the day. Donations of feed would also be appreciated.”

The shelter is requesting Producers Pride 12% horse feed. Those wishing to donate can drop off supplies directly at the Humane Society or purchase them at Vicksburg Tractor Supply on Frontage Road, where shelter staff can pick them up.
