VHS cheerleader Laurence Reed signs to Jackson State

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Vicksburg High School cheerleader Laurence Reed has signed a scholarship to Jackson State University. Reed made everything official on Friday at the VHS Senior Signing Day Ceremony.
“I went to one of their games a while back and the environment was amazing and I love watching the cheerleaders with the band,” Laurence said. “Everyone was so close together so that made the vibes great so I had to choose JSU.”
Reed began cheering as a freshman at Vicksburg High School before taking a small break from the sport. By the time his senior year rolled around, Reed rejoined the team under the leadership of Head Coach Aeriel Patten where he recalled his favorite memories were homecoming and Friday night football games.

“I always loved that feeling of being at the games and cheering the team on while they play,” Reed added.
Now that graduation is quickly approaching, Reed will soon be enrolled at JSU and will be majoring in Computer Science. Although high school cheer is behind him, Reed still maintains his status as an athlete by cheering on the Tigers.
“I love what I do and I have fun doing it,” Reed said.
Laurence is the son of Laurence Reed Sr. and Alicia Reed.
