VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Vicksburg High School cheerleaders Jayla Theriot and Key’Asia Scott signed cheerleading scholarships to Hinds Community College. The two senior athletes celebrated their accomplishments at Vicksburg High School’s senior signing day ceremony on Friday where they publicly announced their plans.

Theriot:

Theriot began cheering at a young age with the Vicksburg Packers. She continued cheering at Vicksburg Junior High School before entering the high school where she helped lead the varsity team.

At VJHS, Theriot began flipping, and by the time she was on the varsity team, she was a flyer before she started tumbling. She testified that her last practice in November was her favorite cheer memory.

“That last practice was just very fun and it was good being with the underclassmen one more time,” Theriot said.

As Theriot is set to graduate soon, she wanted to inform everyone that it’s all smiles behind her facial expressions.

“Everyone says I have a resting mean face but I’m really nice,” she said jokingly.

Making a college cheer team is a huge accomplishment for Theriot and she now has everything in order to compete on the next level.

“It’s going to be more pressure cheering in college but I’m excited I made it and I’m looking forward to bonding with my new teammates,” she said.

Jayla plans to study Radiology and she is the daughter of Lakita Hall and James Theriot.

Scott:

Scott also began her cheering career with the Vicksburg Packers before blossoming into a varsity athlete where she cheered on the Gators.

“My senior year was very fun and we were close so we did a lot of things together,” Scott said.

Scott testified that cheering has always been a huge part of her life which is why she is continuing to pursue it on the collegiate level. Being in the presence of the band was another fulfilling experience during her varsity cheer career.

“Being in front of the crowd on Friday nights was always special and I love football so I’m glad I’ll still be around it,” Scott said. “I’m still not completely sure where I get my cheering spirit from because my mom was a basketball player.”

Key’Asia plans to become an ultrasound tech and she is the daughter of Arcola Scott and Patrick Chambers.
