Burrell, Hall, Palmer, Savage and Knox finish as state champions

PEARL, Miss.(VDN)—A few local track & field athletes became state champions over the weekend. For Warren Central High School, Adria Burrell, Chester Savage, and Dwight Palmer all became champions, while Zion Knox and Amiya Hall also earned the same titles amongst other elites.

Vicksburg High School girls’ track team came in third place at state(70 points) while the Lady Vikes finished in fourth(59 points). WC boys came in fifth place after finishing with 61 points.

Burrell was the first athlete to earn her gold medal as she claimed the state title for a second consecutive year. The University of West Alabama commit finished with a time of 11.93 in the 100m. She also came in second place in the 200m(24.99) and the 400m(59.32).Vicksburg High’s sophomore Amiya Hall dominated in the 200m as she came in first place with a time of 24.64. She didn’t win it all in the 100m but managed to grab a second-place finish with a time of 12.01.

Saturday was also special for Palmer as he became a state champion in the 100m, 200m, and 400m . He finished with times of 10.73, 21.84, and 49.12.

Chester Savage came out as the top-finisher in the 300mh. He won with a final time of 39.89. Gavin Davenport came in fifth place in the shot put. Rohan Caples earned a second place finish in the 800m(2:03.63).

Knox also brought home some gold bling after coming out on top in the long jump after leaping 17-07. The freshman not only beat out the competition in the long jump but she also came in second place in the triple jump(38-00.50). Madison Ward from WC ended her season with a bronze medal as she came in third place in the long jump.

WC’s Arrionna Jenkins earned a second and third-place finish in the shot put(37-02) and the discus(107-11). Kennedy Williams from VHS came right behind her in fourth place in the discus.

McKenzie Edmond also shined for VHS as she hopped her way into second place in the high jump with a five-foot even finish.

The Missy Gators also came in second place in the 4×200(Parson, Nabors, Blackmore, and Brinner)with a time of 1:44.89. Xhiareia Darensburg finished fourth in the 300mh and Mere Smith came in fifth. Shaun Archer and Jayden Woods finished in fourth and seventh place in discus.
