VHS Freshmen and VJHS girls’ basketball teams advance to Little Six Tournament
Vicksburg, Miss.-Vicksburg High School freshmen basketball teams and Vicksburg Junior High School girls’ basketball team will advance to the Little Six Tournament after picking up wins on Thursday.
Vicksburg Junior High School Girls:
The Vicksburg Junior High girls’ team took down Warren Central 36-16. Alaina Williams contributed big for the Missy Gators in the first half as they went up 14-8 at halftime.
Coming out of halftime, Skyla Cosby hit a 3-pointer for WCJHS but Madisyn Kimble and Keasia Hatchett kept VJHS afloat as the Missy Gators took home the win.
Williams led VJHS with 10 points and Kimble put up nine. Aaliyah Mims scored eight points while Hatchett added six and Kerion Cooper finished with two points.
For WCJHS, Skyla Cosby scored 10 points and Laney Bennett added three points while Kabria Hodge and Da’Mariya Cosby both had two points.
VJHS will travel to play Old Towne on Monday.
Vicksburg High School Freshmen Boys:
The Gators pulled off a 64-53 win on the road against Rosa Scott.
Two big 3-pointers in the first half by Deonta Selvy Jr. along with a dominating performance by Jaylen Stewart kept the Gators ahead 30-25 at halftime. Jayden Stewart contributed heavily in the third quarter where he knocked down multiple free throws while Corbin Walker secured a few shots.
Jaylen and Jayden Stewart both scored 18 points each while Walker added 12 and Selvy finished with 10. Jordan Cruthirds finished with two points.
Kade Gaines led Rosa Scott with 13 points and MJ Garland scored nine.
VHS will play Brandon in the first round of the Little Six Tournament on Monday.
Vicksburg High School Freshmen Girls:
The Missy Gators defeated Warren Central 21-17.
Layla Johnson scored 10 points. No stats were reported at this time. They will travel to play Northwest Rankin on Monday.
