VHS Freshmen Football Team Defeated Clinton 20-14
VICKSBURG, MS – The Vicksburg High School (VHS) Ninth Grade freshmen football team traveled to Clinton on Tuesday and came back with a 20-14 win.
Jayden Stewart scored a 15-yard touchdown while Jaquez Jones finished the night with 150 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Jaylen Stewart scored the two-point conversion.
Defensively, Landon Prentiss caught an interception and Messiah Sims blocked a field goal and also had an interception. Jamari Johnson grabbed seven tackles and Jaylen Butler forced a fumble and had a fumble recovery. Corbin Walker starred in the secondary and had two pass deflections as well as catching a big 25-yard pass for the VHS freshmen team.
Vicksburg native Paul Wilson Jr. is the Head Ninth Grade Football Coach for the Vicksburg High School freshmen. Wilson also serves as the varsity defensive coordinator, a position he earned in January 2024.
As a defensive backs coach in 2023, Wilson helped lead the Gators to a 7-4 season where they produced one shutout and held a total of three teams to score less than 10 points. Under Wilson’s defensive leadership in 2023, his secondary finished with 21 pass deflections, 13 interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns.
The Gators are 3-0 on the year and will host Germantown on Tuesday.
