Vicksburg boys’ basketball opens season with 57-35 dominant win over South Pike
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg High School’s boys’ basketball team opened its 2025–26 season with a dominant 57-35 victory over South Pike on Tuesday night.
Marlyn Foy led the Gators with 19 points and eight rebounds, powering the team’s first win of the year.
“We have to work harder, but we’re looking forward to having a successful season,” Foy said. “We did good, but we have to work on our free throws.”
After a slow start, Vicksburg found its rhythm behind a spark from Foy and Jaquez Marshall, who energized the crowd with a powerful dunk as the Gators jumped ahead 17-5 in the first quarter. Foy took over the second quarter with several strong inside finishes, while Jaylen Stewart added key buckets and Fabian Moore drained a 3-pointer to help VHS take a 31-13 halftime lead.
The Gators extended their lead to 49-26 by the end of the third quarter, with Khaleb Bailey and Jayden Neal both knocking down 3-pointers and Stewart continuing to score in the paint.
Foy led all scorers with 19 points, followed by Marshall(8 rebounds) and Stewart(6 rebounds) with 10 each. Moore added five points and six rebounds, Bailey chipped in five, Le’Brone Chiplin scored four, Neal had three, and Devin Banks made a free throw.
Head coach Kelvin Carter praised his team’s effort, noting that the Gators are still missing several players due to the ongoing football season.
“My young guys really made me feel good because they played hard as a team, and all eight guys contributed to the win,” Carter said.
Girls’ Game:
