Vicksburg Junior High, ninth grade teams roll past Pearl

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg Junior High School and Vicksburg High School’s ninth grade football teams both came away with victories over Pearl Tuesday night.

The VJHS Gators powered their way to a 50-16 win behind a huge performance from Messiah McGee. He scored three rushing touchdowns, caught a touchdown pass, and added a 2-point conversion run.

Messiah Robinson chipped in with a pick-six, while Peyton Walker scored on a rushing touchdown and also grabbed an interception. Desean James broke loose for a 70-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Dajuan Martin threw a touchdown pass.

On defense, Kaleb Sims had an interception and Brandon Smith anchored the front with eight tackles and two sacks. Smith also converted all but one of the team’s 2-point tries on the ground.

Ninth Grade:

In the nightcap, Vicksburg’s ninth grade team outlasted Pearl 34-27. Quartaveon Thomas led the way with three touchdowns, including a fumble recovery returned more than 50 yards for a score and two rushing TDs. He also racked up over 250 all-purpose yards between passing and rushing.

Daylen Atkins added a 60-yard touchdown pass, while Antwuan Chiplin scored on a rushing TD. Defensively, linebackers Jerron Winter, Noah Bass and Jaqavious Porter, along with defensive end Jordan Hall, made several tackles for loss to help seal the win.
