VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — A Vicksburg man has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to failing to register as a sex offender.

Ricky Turner received the sentence Friday from Judge James Chaney in Warren County Circuit Court. Chaney ordered Turner to serve five years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

During the hearing, Lt. Stacy Rollison testified that Turner failed to report to receive a new monitoring device after claiming that a dog had chewed up his previous one.

Court records show Turner had a prior conviction for statutory rape and was required to register as a sex offender.

Authorities later arrested Turner in Louisiana before he was returned to Warren County to face the charge.

Assistant District Attorney Liem Walker represented the state in the case. Chaney ordered that Turner’s five-year sentence run consecutively to a previous sentence.
