VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg Police Department are searching for answers after a fight in downtown Vicksburg lead to gun shots over the weekend.

According to reports, the fight between several individuals broke out Saturday evening and carried over into the early morning hours of Sunday. Videos surfaced on social media indicating the event occurred on Washington Street near Crawford Street.

VPD says no one was injured during the fight, and the incident appears to show shots simply fired into the air. It is speculated the shot was to cause the crowd fighting to disperse.

VPD Police Chief Larry Burns said the following:

“The violence and reckless behavior that occurred in our downtown area this past weekend is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Our citizens and visitors should be able to come downtown, enjoy our restaurants, businesses, and entertainment, and have a good time without fear for their safety. The Vicksburg Police Department is committed to holding those responsible accountable and taking the necessary steps to ensure our downtown remains a safe place for everyone. We will continue working with our community and business owners to address these issues and prevent this type of behavior from happening again.”
