VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A Vicksburg murder suspect has been accused of beating a man in the Warren County Jail. Koury DeMichael Lawrence, one of four suspects arrested for the 2023 murder of 13-year-old Carleone Woodland, was sentenced on Wednesday to seven years in prison for another crime.

Lawrence has been accused of being one of several individuals who assaulted a man in the Warren County Jail. Investigator Stacy Rollison testified that Lawrence and eight other men in Cell Block D jumped on the victim because he refused to give up his money.

The victim suffered from multiple injuries due to the assault, including broken ribs and punctured lungs. Cell Block D housed a total of 10 inmates at the time of the assault.

At the time of the incident, Lawrence was on probation for a previous charge of vehicular burglary. Due to the assault, Judge Chaney revoked his probation and ordered he must serve the remaining seven years in prison.

Lawrence still has a pending murder charge on him and is awaiting trial at this time.
