VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A Vicksburg woman was killed early Wednesday morning in a crash involving an 18-wheeler on Interstate 20 in Clinton.

Hinds County Coroner Jeremiah Howard identified the victim as 53-year-old Tatyana Zavalova. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on July 2 near the Springridge Road Exit (Exit 36) on I-20 westbound. Authorities said portions of the interstate were shut down for several hours as emergency crews responded and investigated the scene.

According to preliminary reports, Zavalova was returning from a trip to Florida when the crash occurred. Fatigue may have played a role in the accident, though an official cause has not yet been determined. A toxicology report has been ordered as part of the ongoing investigation.

The details surrounding how the collision happened, including whether any other vehicles were involved or if the 18-wheeler driver sustained injuries, have not yet been released.

The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies.

Zavalova’s death marks another tragic incident along one of Mississippi’s most heavily traveled highway corridors. Officials continue to urge motorists to remain alert, especially during overnight hours when fatigue can become a significant risk factor.

No further details have been released at this time.
