Vicksburg native Jaylen Whitaker has been named as the new offensive and defensive line coach at Vicksburg Junior High School. Whitaker, a St. Aloysius graduate, recently earned the title as the Gators’ season is quickly approaching.

Playing defensive end at St. Aloysius, Whitaker quickly became a star player on the field under former Head Coach Michael Fields. In his 2017 senior season, he helped the Flashes to the playoffs where he grabbed 59 tackles and 12 sacks.

Due to his great senior season, Whitaker racked up offers from Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Jackson State University. He would eventually sign to Northwest Mississippi Community College before transferring to Austin Peay State University. He also played at Coahoma CC and Peru State.

Whitaker has now made his way back to his hometown to help lead the Gators.

“It’s exciting to be on the different side of the field especially since I just finished playing,” Whitaker said. “I’m looking forward to a great season and I will always preach about attitude and effort.”

Whitaker will also be coaching tight ends at Vicksburg High School.
