Volunteers still needed for Monday’s cleanup event
VICKSBURG, MS. – Ahead of the Destination Downtown Conference from September 11 through the 13, volunteers are still needed to help clean up downtown. The clean up event will be held on Monday, September 9, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
“We are excited about taking the morning on Monday, September 9th and getting everything looking great downtown before we welcome Main Streets from all over Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi as well as members from Main Street America,” said Laura Beth Strickland, Executive Director of Visit Vicksburg, “We plan to spend the morning picking up litter, hanging banners, and walking through before we welcome over 300 attendees for this special event. Destination Downtown is a tremendous opportunity for us to show off how special our downtown district is as a center for residents, visitors, and the business community.”
Volunteers will meet at Washington Street Park on Monday September 9 at 9 a.m. for cleaning assignments and gear such as gloves and trash bags.
Destination Downtown is open to anyone with an interest in the economic revitalization of historic downtown commercial districts and is designed so that attendees learn from their colleagues as well as from experts in the field. The conference attracts Main Street executive directors, board members, city officials, merchants, property owners and others who gather to share ideas on building sustainable downtown communities. It attracts more than 300 professionals in preservation-based historic commercial district revitalization.
