VPD officer forced off road, injured in early morning crash

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A Vicksburg police (VPD) officer was injured early Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of I-20 and Highway 61 North, according to Police Chief Penny Jones.
VPD Officer Jeremy Herrington was driving his patrol unit shortly after 12:30 a.m. when, according to preliminary reports, he was forced off the roadway by another vehicle. His patrol car left the highway, went into a ravine, and struck a tree.
Herrington sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for treatment. He is currently listed in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine additional details.
“We ask the community to keep Officer Herrington in their thoughts and prayers as we hope for his full and speedy recovery,” Jones said.
