PEARL, Miss. (VDN) — The Warren Central freshmen football team remained undefeated Tuesday night, beating Pearl 38-6 to improve to 5-0 under head coach Matt Williams.

Quarterback Cameron Zellous threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Braylen Selvy to open the scoring, then connected with Doss Morgan on a 35-yard touchdown strike. Morgan also added a two-point conversion to make it 14-0. After Pearl cut the lead to 14-6 with a 6-yard run, Warren Central pulled away with three more touchdowns before halftime, including a 19-yard run by Selvy. Jordan Taylor added two rushing touchdowns, including a 7-yarder in the third quarter, and two two-point conversions.

The Vikings’ defense allowed only 82 yards and forced three turnovers. JJ Williams had an interception and a fumble recovery that set up scoring drives, while Juatevious Peters recovered another fumble.

“Our offensive line led the way with 27 rushes for 197 yards,” Williams said, crediting Semiko Moody, Josh Johnson, Syal Gonzalez, Tyler Sloan, Jonathan Gee, Mattox Williams and Rylan Montgomery. “We had a 99-yard touchdown drive in the third quarter that was all runs. I’m very proud of them the last two weeks with over 400 yards rushing in two games.”

Williams said he was pleased with how his team set the tone early. “We came out and scored early and got the lead,” he said. “Our defense had only a few bad plays that led to Pearl’s only TD, but other than that we looked really good in our effort and tackling.”

Warren Central faces rival Vicksburg next week. “We’re looking to finish the regular season the right way and be at our best,” Williams said.
