Warren Central selects 2025-2026 football cheer captains

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Mia Grace Owen, Addilyn Wilson, McKinley Phillips, Sydney Sullivan and Kaylee Doyle have been selected as captains of the Warren Central High School football cheerleading squad.

All five seniors have been with the program since their freshman year and now step into key leadership roles as they prepare for the upcoming season. In addition to cheering together, they are all active members of several school clubs, including Key Club, Beta Club, and various honor societies.

Owen

Owen, a six-year cheerleader at Warren Central, said she’s excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead.

“I’m very excited and grateful for this opportunity because I’ve looked forward to this for a long time,” she said.

Owen began cheering at the YMCA before transitioning into the school program. As a captain, she is responsible for planning pep rallies and helping with overall team coordination. She said she’s most excited for the season opener.

Wilson

Wilson credited her years of dedication to the team as a key reason she was chosen as a captain.

“I feel very accomplished and excited because I’ve dreamed for this,” she said. “I want to give my teammates someone to look up to and I want to be a role model for the younger ones.”

Wilson said she looks forward to making memories this season. Along with cheer, she is involved in Key Club and Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy.

Sullivan

Sullivan, who began cheering in seventh grade, said she is eager to step into the leadership position.

“I’m very excited to lead my team because I’ve been doing this since seventh grade,” she said. “I’ve always looked up to captains so I’m happy that I’m finally one.”

As captain, Sullivan helps keep the team on time and unified. She also participates in Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta, the National Technical Honor Society, and serves as vice president of the Student Council.

Doyle

Doyle said she is enthusiastic about stepping into the captain role as the season quickly approaches.

“I’m super excited and I’ve been waiting on this because we’ve put in a lot of hard work,” she said.

She will serve in multiple roles on the squad and said she’s ready to take it all in during her final season. Like her fellow captains, Doyle is active in several student organizations, including Key Club and other leadership groups. She is currently undecided on her post-graduation plans.

Phillips

Phillips, who also began cheering through the YMCA, said she is ready to make her senior year count.

“I feel very honored and grateful that my teammates and coaches trusted me with this position,” she said.

As captain, she helps lead dances, teach cheers, and keep the team focused. She is a member of Beta Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, and more. After high school, she plans to pursue a career in nursing.

The five captains will make their debut on the sidelines on Friday, Aug. 29, when Warren Central’s football season kicks off.
