Warren Central tennis claims district sweep, sends 12 to state
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central’s tennis program continued its dominance by capturing back-to-back district championships while sweeping every major category in tournament play.
The Vikings and Lady Vikes claimed individual titles in boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles. Warren Central also finished as runner-up in both boys and girls doubles.
In boys doubles action, Warren Central’s duo of Sam Harris and Brady Taylor captured the championship with straight-set victories of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-4. Teammates Gray Lampkin and Luke Bond also delivered a strong performance, winning 6-1, 6-1 to advance deep into the bracket and finish as runners-up.
On the girls side, Sydney Sullivan and Lili Fiebelman secured the doubles title for Warren Central, winning their final match 6-1, 7-5. The Lady Vikes added another championship in girls singles as Makayla Bufkin earned the title with dominant set wins, including 6-0, 6-3.
In boys singles, Whitt Loper brought home the championship for Warren Central with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory in the finals.
Warren Central also controlled mixed doubles, where the team of Duke Esparza and Marlee Solomon claimed the championship with a 6-3, 6-7, 10-4 win in a tightly contested final.
Additional contributors for Warren Central included Ellie Tennison and Avery Hern, who earned key wins in doubles play, as well as other competitors who helped the program secure a clean sweep of titles across the board.
With the district tournament complete, Warren Central will now turn its attention to the individual state tournament. All 12 starters from the program have qualified and will compete on their home courts in Vicksburg on April 21-22.
The Vikings’ latest performance adds to an already impressive run, as they continue to establish themselves as one of the top tennis programs in the state.
