Henderson embraces journey to MGCCC

Henderson signed with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, earning a spot with the Bulldogs after a career that showcased his ability on both sides of the ball.

“Thank God for this opportunity because I stayed patient, so I’m going to do good with this opportunity,” Henderson said.

Known as one of the area’s top defensive threats entering the 2025 season, Henderson made his mark early. As a junior in 2024, he recorded 70 tackles at linebacker and earned All-District honors.

His senior season brought a major transition, as he moved to running back to help the team — a change he embraced fully.

“I switched to the offense to help my team, but I loved it because I get to run over everybody,” he said.

Despite being limited to nine games due to injury, Henderson made a strong impact. He rushed for 626 yards and 11 touchdowns while also contributing 31 tackles on defense. His efforts earned him district best running back honors.

Among his many memories at Vicksburg High, Henderson pointed to a key interception against Warren Central as his most unforgettable moment.

A three-year starter who began playing football in the second grade, Henderson credited his support system for helping him reach the next level. He chose MGCCC over Millsaps College, Southwest Mississippi Community College and Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

“I definitely have to thank Coach Lacey, my mom and dad, and Coach Paul Wilson because they all helped me get better,” Henderson said.

Henderson is the son of JD and Carolyn Henderson.

Warfield fulfills lifelong dream at Hinds

“I love the environment up there. I just love football, and I just want to go up there and play,” Warfield said.

Hinds began recruiting Warfield following Vicksburg’s 55-6 win over Provine, eventually securing a commitment from the standout wide receiver. He finished his senior season with 257 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

Warfield said his final varsity game stands as his most memorable, highlighted by a 40-yard touchdown reception against West Point.

Football has been part of Warfield’s life since the age of 8, and he credited youth coach Skooter Wells for first encouraging him to step onto the field.

“This is just great,” Warfield said. “It’s always been my dream to be a college athlete. I just want to thank the coaching staff and my teammates for everything.”

Warfield is the son of LaToya Warfield.

A moment that reflects perseverance

For both Henderson and Warfield, signing day represented more than just a ceremony — it marked the reward for years of commitment, sacrifice and belief.

From youth leagues to Friday night lights, both athletes stayed the course, overcame challenges and seized their opportunities. Now, their journeys continue at the collegiate level, carrying with them the pride of Vicksburg High School and the inspiration they leave behind for the next generation of Gators.
