WC crushed Germantown 56-23 on Friday

Warren Central High School football team crushed Germantown 56-23 on Friday night.

The Vikings started the game with some tough running from Eric Collins Jr. Nash Morgan also showed off his footwork as he picked up some rushing yards before hitting Maddox Lynch on a big gain. WC eventually scored on their first drive as Aden Greer ran it in for a 2-yard touchdown that put the score at 7-0 after Jonah Artman’s successful extra point.

The Mavericks responded well with an 80-yard touchdown pass on their first play to tie the game at 7-7. It wouldn’t take long for Germantown to score again as they picked up a 36-yard touchdown run to go up 14-7 in the first quarter. 

The first-quarter scoring wouldn’t be over as Roosevelt Harris Jr. caught a 53-yard pick 6 to tie the game at 14-14 after Artman’s extra point.

By the beginning of the second quarter, WC quickly earned possession of the ball as Larry Reynolds Jr. caught an interception. Two plays later, Morgan took off with the ball and hit a spin move to gain a 35-yard touchdown that put WC ahead 21-14. 

With a few minutes left to play in the second quarter, Germantown attempted a long pass but it was intercepted by Chester Savage. Greer broke out for a 44-yard run on the next play. He scored from a two-yard run as the Vikings led 28-14 with 4:44 left in the half. 

On WC’s opening drive of the second half, Germantown picked up a safety as things sat at 28-16. Later in the third quarter, Collins broke out for a 50-yard run which set up a four-yard touchdown by Greer that gave WC the 35-16 lead.

As WC went on defense, TK Qualls blasted the quarterback and forced a fumble where Landon Green picked it up and ran it for a 10-yard score. WC was up 42-16 in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Mavericks scored from a 10-yard pass that made it a 42-23 game. The Vikings responded when Morgan stiff-armed one player and threw a 15-yard touchdown to Lynch as they took the 49-23 lead.

The final score of the night happened when Collins broke out for a 73-yard touchdown as WC won 56-23. Artman went 8 for 8 in extra points.

The Vikings are now 2-1 under Head Coach Josh Morgan and will travel to Brandon on Friday.

Porter’s Chapel Academy took a 44-6 loss to Humphreys Academy. Auston Moore scored the Eagles’ touchdown and he finished with 67 rushing yards. Conley Johnston and Carson Hayes both had eight tackles.
