VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg City Clerk’s Office has certified the results of the 2025 municipal election, confirming Willis Thompson as the city’s next mayor and Vickie Bailey as the new Ward 2 Alderwoman.

Thompson received 1,795 votes, narrowly defeating incumbent Mayor George Flaggs Jr., who earned 1,719 votes.

“I’m honored and humbled by the trust the people of Vicksburg have placed in me,” Thompson said in a statement following the official results. “This campaign was about the future of our city.”

Thompson campaigned on a platform focused on public safety, infrastructure investment, responsible spending, code enforcement, beautification, youth and family support, business development, and long-term planning.

With the municipal election now certified, Thompson said he is preparing for the transition and plans to make administrative announcements in the coming days.

“This victory belongs to all of us, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work,” he said. “When it comes to the future of our city, there isn’t any time to waste.”

The Ward 2 race was also decided by a narrow victory with Bailey receiving 1,103 votes and current Alderman Alex Monsour receiving 1,023.

Thompson and Bailey will be sworn in on Tuesday, July 1.
