Wood and Griggs named Captains of the St. Aloysius cheerleading team
Carrie Wood and Gracie Griggs have been named captains of the St. Aloysius varsity cheerleading team. Both Wood and Griggs are seniors at the Vicksburg Catholic School as football season is quickly approaching.
Wood:
Wood is in her fourth year on the varsity cheer team but has been cheering for VCS since elementary school. She has now witnessed her hard work paying off as she stands as captain.
“It’s an honor because I really love this team and I’ve worked hard to get to this spot,” Wood said.
As captain, Wood is in charge of helping rebuild the team after losing multiple cheerleaders to graduation last year. She mentioned that Friday night football games are some of her best times in high school because she gets to do what she does best which is cheer.
“I just love supporting the football team and it’s really fun when they win because it’s a good vibe,” Wood added.
Over the years, Wood was named Rookie of the Year as well as being an All-American.
Griggs:
Griggs is this year’s Co-Captain and has earned her stripes to gain this title. She first started cheering in fourth grade and has a big responsibility of assisting Wood in leading the team.
“It’s an honor and I’ve always dreamed of being a senior and having a special role and I’m excited to bring some new ideas to the team,” Griggs said.
Griggs, who is also an All-American, mentioned that Friday nights were also some of her favorite times as a cheerleader.
“Getting up early and cheering on the football is the best and I really love the prep rallies,” Griggs said.
Griggs testified that she has a goal to bring in new traditions to the cheerleading team as they have less than a month before the football season.
Griggs and Wood are both led by Head Coach Kirsten Golding.
