1-year-old beaten and killed in Jackson

A 1-year-old’s death has been ruled as a homicide,according to the Jackson Police Department.

On Wednesday, JPD responded to Forest Avenue in reference to a deceased infant. JPD interviewed the mother where she told them that she took her daughter to UMMC because she was unresponsive.

“It was determined that this was a homicide and that this child had been victimized,” Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said. “This child has been brutally beaten and abused. The child had trauma around her neck. What was so startling and horrendous about this was that this child had possibly been deceased for 10 hours.”
