VPD assists MBN during traffic stop; armed passenger flees
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
The Vicksburg Police Department assisted the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics during a traffic stop Tuesday that led to a vehicle pursuit and a foot chase involving an armed passenger.
According to the Vicksburg Police Department, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. in the area of Mission 66 and Alcorn Drive when Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents, with assistance from VPD, attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
Police said the driver failed to stop and fled from law enforcement before the vehicle eventually came to a stop on Alcorn Drive.
After the vehicle stopped, the passenger exited while armed with a firearm and ran into a nearby wooded area. Investigators with the Vicksburg Police Department’s Narcotics Unit and MBN pursued the passenger through the woods, with the foot chase ending in the area of McAuley Drive and Hildegard Terrace.
The driver was taken into custody by MBN.
Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public related to the incident.
The investigation is being led by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. Officials said any additional information or media inquiries should be directed to MBN.
