Vicksburg native charged with murder in fatal Texas shooting
COPPERAS COVE, TX. (VDN) —
Vicksburg native L’Michael Detron Amos has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Copperas Cove, Texas, authorities said.
According to the Copperas Cove Police Department, officers responded to the 700 block of Constitution Drive at approximately 12:28 a.m. on July 16 after receiving reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found 29-year-old Sholonda Shanice Dixon, of Copperas Cove, suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers began life-saving measures until Copperas Cove EMS arrived, but Dixon later died from her injuries.
Investigators said a witness identified the suspected shooter, who was known to the victim, and provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle. The information was broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies, and officers with the Killeen Police Department later located the suspect and took him into custody.
Police identified the suspect as Amos, 31, of Killeen. He was arraigned July 17 before Bell County Justice of the Peace Judge Larry Wilkey, who set his bond at $1.25 million on the murder charge.
In addition to the murder charge, Amos is also charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle. He is being held in the Bell County Jail.
The investigation remains active, and officials said the murder charge could be enhanced or additional charges could be filed as the Coryell County District Attorney’s Office continues reviewing the evidence.
The Copperas Cove Police Department extended its condolences to Dixon’s family and loved ones as they mourn her death.
