Meet the Ward One candidates – video interviews

Over the past few weeks, the Vicksburg Daily News has conducted interviews with the candidates vying for the position of Ward One Alderman. This position, left vacant by the untimely passing of longtime Alderman Michael Mayfield, holds significant importance for the community.
A special election will be held on Thursday, May 9th, in Ward One.
Ten candidates qualified for the contest, and all ten candidates were given an opportunity to speak with the Vicksburg Daily News and have their video interview presented to the reading public.
Three of the candidates did not make themselves available for the interview. The Vicksburg Daily News invited all the candidates to the interview in this story, this story and two of the three were personally contacted and invited again at the candidate’s debate. The three who chose not to answer questions for your benefit in an interview with the Vicksburg Daily News are:
- Jamma Williams was personally informed at the candidates’ debate and chose not to contact the Vicksburg Daily News for the interview.
- Joseph Williams, via emails, was unable to make two attempts at conducting the interview and did not make the third attempt after saying he would. Williams was not at the candidates’ debate.
- Kevin Winters was personally made aware at the candidate’s debate and chose not to contact the Vicksburg Daily News for the interview.
The candidates were told it would be a video interview and that the interview would be filmed nonstop, so there was no starting over once we started the video. Each candidate was asked the same questions in the same order.
